However, one expert has opted to sound a note of warning, suggesting companies must ensure they are implementing the procedure for the right reasons and that it will definitely benefit staff.
Tom Ball, managing director at NearDesk, explained every business is different, just as every person is different. Therefore, employers must adopt flexible working or various features of it only when they are suited to their workforce. “Some people love working at home and have got somewhere productive where they can be at home, other people prefer running around, or they prefer to have somewhere productive where they can get to easily. There are some who actually want to come into the office every single day. It is about being truly flexible,” Mr Ball stated.
Regardless of who does what, one solution that can play a key role in making flexible working a success is VoIP. The telecommunications tool will allow bosses to make cheap calls to their workers, no matter where they are based. It will also ensure everybody can stay in touch with each other without the need for making expensive landline and mobile calls.
Mr Ball went on to urge companies to put the idea of people being lazy while working at home to one side and focus on the benefits. In fact, he admitted there is a significant difference between simply working from home and flexible working.
